45th Street project to begin Thursday Forum
staff reports, The Forum Northern Improvement Co. of Fargo has been awarded a $9.78 million contract to widen 45th Street South in Fargo. Work begins Thursday and is expected to last until mid-November. Traffic control will begin Thursday morning on the north end of the project area, near Ninth Avenue South. Crews will remove the medians and replace them with asphalt to create a center lane to accommodate construction vehicle traffic through the duration of the project. Roadway restrictions on 45th Street South are expected to last a week to 10 days. When the project is complete, 45th Street will have six lanes, three northbound and three southbound. Also added will be double left-turn lanes at the 13th, 17th and 19th avenue intersections, right turn lanes as needed, repairs to existing concrete pavement, and repairs to approaches to the I-94 interchange bridge. Trees, street lighting, traffic signals, hydrants, inlets, storm and sanitary sewers will be replaced as needed. When the project is finished, the intersection of 45th Street and 13th Avenue will be nine lanes wide on each side: six traffic lanes plus a double left turn and a single right turn. Double left turns also will be added at 17th and 19th avenues south. Northern Improvement can receive up to $400,000 in incentive bonus by completing the job ahead of schedule - $10,000 per day not to exceed 40 days, or be charged $1,000 a day if not completed by Nov. 18. For more information, contact Brenda Derrig at (701) 241-1545, or access the city of Fargo construction Web site at www.fargostreets.com.
