Highway 1804 work under way

Work is under way on Highway 1804, widening the section from
48th Avenue to Signal Avenue, just past the University of Mary.
The $9 million project is being handled by Northern Improvement and is
the third phase of the reconstruction of 1804-University Drive,
according to Bob Fode, the North Dakota Department of Transportation's
director of transportation programs.
The 2.5-mile section, currently a two-lane route, will be widened to
five lanes of asphalt, including a center turn lane.
The Apple Creek Bridge will be replaced at a cost of $800,000. The
pedestrian-bike path that currently ends just south of Burleigh Avenue
will be extended to the University of Mary on the west side of 1804 at
a cost of between $200,000 and $300,000.
"A thin lift overlay of 1804 past Signal Street will be coming up
in a couple of years and will be the last piece in the 1804
project," Fode said.
The federal government will be covering 80 percent of the cost of the
project, with the state picking up the remainder. The project is
slated for completion by Oct. 28 of this year.
